multiculturalcentre2Join Mayor Steve Black, local educators and students, and the general public at the 1st ever Evening of Applause on March 25th in the Timmins High & Vocational School auditorium.

The event is in conjunction with the United Nations’ International Day for the Elimination for Racial Discrimination which takes place on March 21st each year. This is the inaugural year this project is being celebrated in Timmins.

The Evening of Applause will be the culmination of three months of awareness-raising and the promotion of tolerance. It will include awards for the Students who Makes a Difference, best anti-racism/tolerance poster and the inaugural inductions of Human Rights Wall of Fame. Each school board will also present one piece of entertainment and our local Goose Family – White Stone Cree Singers / Four Eagle Whistle Woman Singers will perform a special opening and closing ceremony. It all takes place on Wednesday, March 25th from 6:30 – 8:30pm at TH&VS William Dawson Auditorium.

The event is free and all are welcome to attend!

The Human Rights Wall of Fame selection committee has named three deserving individuals, from a strong pool of nominees, as the first inductees to the Wall of Fame: Anita Spadafore, Dan McKay and Ed Ligocki.

All three have shown tremendous leadership in human rights or anti-racism activities locally, regionally, nationally or internationally.  Each inductee will be celebrated at the 1st Ever Evening of Applause with their photos to be displayed at the main entrance to the Timmins Public Library/ CHMA Building, which has been generously sponsored by the City of Timmins.
