Media Release - Northern Training Division Launches E-Learning Platform Pic

Northern College’s Northern Training Division announced the launch of a new online e-learning platform today, which will allow employers and individuals to access short-form training programs from any location with internet access.

The new platform will provide access to an array of workplace training courses. Initial offerings include health and safety focused courses like WHMIS and Confined Space Awareness, as well as industry focused courses like Lockout / Tag Out.

While most courses on the platform will be available in a generic format applicable to most workplaces, Northern can also customize course content to meet an employer’s unique needs. Northern can also develop unique virtual campuses for corporate clients, allowing employees to access training directly from their employer’s website.

“Our new e-learning platform offers some significant advantages to employers when compared to traditional training methods,” says Christine Heavens, Executive Director, Community, Business Development and Employment Services at Northern College. “Not only is online training cheaper than classroom-based training, it’s also easier to access. That means that users will be able to access the high-quality training that Northern College is known for, whenever and wherever works best for them.”

Northern has already begun working with corporate clients to create customized online training courses. In November 2014, the college announced that it had partnered with Primero Mining Corp. to develop and deliver online training materials for new employees at Primero’s Black Fox Complex.

The partnership will see the college creating a series of online health and safety, induction and orientation training courses. The courses will include multimedia and video elements developed by the college in collaboration with Primero.
