The Canadian Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life” event fundraiser brought in $80,000 for cancer research.

Dave McLaughlin, Manager of the Timmins community office of the Canadian Cancer Society says this years grand total of $80,000 fell short of beating last year’s total of $150,000.

Anyone interested in enjoying the event was told they could make a donation for a wristband – but McLaughlin says that didn’t exactly happen consistently

Calling it a learning experience, he adds, there will be some changes next year to avoid problems like this:

Originally, there were 25 teams in total but McLaughlin says 3 teams fund-raised by didn’t show up.

The Friday night event saw more than 250 people at O’Gorman High School, from survivors to caregivers to anyone whose life has been directly affected by cancer.
