At approximately 12:45 a.m., Timmins Police officers responded to a call in the area of Algonquin Blvd and Birch St. The caller stated that he was in possession of a firearm and was threatening another individual who was being held at the scene.

Police quickly closed Algonquin Blvd. for public safety reasons, and the Timmins Police Service’s Emergency Response Team attended the scene. Following an investigation, police determined that the call was unfounded. Algonquin Blvd was reopened at approximately 5:00 a.m. The incident remains under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Section.

At approximately 3:17 a.m., police received a report of a Break & Enter at the Fishbowl Restaurant on Riverside Dr. Investigation determined that entry had been gained to the building, and the Ontario Provincial Police’s K9 unit assisted with a track of the area. The investigation is in its early stages and is ongoing at this time.

At approximately 4:03 a.m., officers responded to a call in the area of Balsam St. N and Fifth Ave., regarding an individual who had been assaulted and was being confined in a residence. The Timmins Police Service Emergency Response Team attended the area and determined this call to be unfounded as well. This incident also remains under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Section.

Police take all 9-1-1 calls seriously, and false calls take resources from other incidents that are legitimate and other residents who may truly need assistance. The public is reminded that making false calls to 9-1-1 is a serious offence, and could lead to criminal charges
