Timmins_Police_Service_logo_updThe Timmins Police Service is a committed member of the Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet.

This is a project made possible by the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.

Cybertip.ca is an important partner of the strategy, with the goal of raising awareness, educating the public, and collecting information about potential offenders.

Along with providing educational information about online child abuse and exploitation, Cybertip.ca provides a link to submit tips from the public about these types of crimes. Across the province, Internet Child Exploitation investigators receive thousands of intelligence reports from Cybertip.ca, and the website has contributed to the rescue of 465 children and 439 arrests across Canada since 2013. Last year alone, Cybertip.ca generated 35,983 intelligence reports, which were forwarded to police services.

This year’s focus is raising awareness about child pornography. Law enforcement agencies and Cybertip.ca’s goal is to bridge the gap between ‘virtual’ abuse, and real abuse. Child pornography is not simply about virtual photos, but has a real impact on a victim child and children everywhere who may become prey to predators.

The Timmins Police Service invites residents to visit Cybertip.ca for more information about the tip line, as well as for educational material, news items, and ongoing projects. To report any concerns regarding online child abuse of exploitation, please visit https://www.cybertip.ca/app/en/report.
