REDCROSSNEWSLETTER copyThe Syrian refugee crisis has been a major topic of conversation during the federal election due to it’s affect on foreign policy, but the Canadian Red Cross has been working hard to provide support in Syria and Europe

Deputy director for emergencies, Chrian Livera says the red cross is helping provide refugees with everything from basic necessities, food, water and shelter, as well as medical and health care assistance.

Recently, the Timmins and Temiskaming Shores chapter of Canadian Red Cross participated in an initiative that sent 10,000 cots and 10,000 blankets over to the German Red Cross to provide bedding for the refugees that have landed in Germany.

Timmins City council is asking residents to donate money to sponsor a Syrian refugee family. It takes 30,000 to sponsor a family and if residents raise $15,000, the city will match it.
