OPPAt approximately 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 20, 2015, members of the Cochrane Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 11 in Clute Township, west of the Town of Cochrane.

Upon arrival at the scene, police observed that two pickup trucks had been involved in a head-on collision.  One of the drivers, a 48 year old male from Winnipeg, Manitoba, was transported to a local hospital to be treated for serious injuries.  The other male driver, Ronald RIOUX (53yrs) of Iroquois Falls, Ontario, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Environmental conditions may have been a contributing factor in this collision.  The OPP is reminding the motoring public to expect heavier than normal volumes of traffic on Ontario roadways over the Holiday Season, and to adjust their driving as appropriate to compensate for unfavorable weather conditions.
