Timmins Mayor Steve Black has big news from the Good Roads Conference possibly affecting Timmins

Black is attending the conference in Toronto where Premier Kathleen Wynne is  announcing Connecting Link funding is doubling by 2019 to $30 million, up from $15 million. The Ontario Community Infrastructure Funding will triple during the same time frame from $100 million to $300 million.

Through Facebook Black says, he’s pleased the government has finally opened it’s ears to the needs of the North.

“I’m very happy after the connecting link funding announcement as I have been one of the largest critics for the previous funding level. It’s great to have a Premier who has listened and taken action to address some of the major issues facing municipalities”

Wynne says the announcement is based on communities having success with their asset management plans, or a plan on how to execute infrastructure repairs.

The heads of the Ontario Good Roads Association (OGRA) are also in agreement with Mayor Black saying, smaller municipalities can now finally make major upgrades to highways downloaded to them by the province.

Timmins currently has a funding application awaiting approval for $3 million towards the connecting link.  In the meantime, the city is holding a public meeting, March 8th, at the McIntyre Auditorium from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. They’ll be asking you what improvements you’d like to see and will take them into consideration if and when construction finally begins on the 21 km stretch of highway.
