A charge of second-degree murder has been approved against a 29-year-old man from Burnaby following the discovery of human remains in the area of Florence Lake Service Road in Mission earlier this week.

Ryan Jack Armstrong, who lived in the Timmins area until a few years ago, has been arrested in connection with the homicide and he now faces the murder charge and a charge of indignity to a human body.

“The victim has been tentatively identified, however, confirmation is being sought through an autopsy. Our early investigative theory supports this as a targeted homicide and it is believed that the victim and suspect were known to each other,” says Sergeant Stephanie Ashton with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

“An important piece to this investigation was the support of the public who came forward with information that has aided in the rapid progression from initial investigation to charge approval,” adds Ashton.

She says Armstrong isn’t well known to police. He appeared in court yesterday and will remain in custody until his next court appearance on April 21st.
