AngusCharlie_NDPTimmins-James Bay is getting an additional $53,000 from Service Canada to hire 24 more students.

This is on top of the $600,000 already allocated to help hire summer students this year. MP Charlie Angus says the government had surplus funding left and we were able to secure even more for the region.

We have always worked very closely with Service Canada on the summer jobs program. We are going to provide over 220 jobs for students this summer. That is quite significant and a record for this riding.”

Angus says the increase in funds will also allow for more agencies to benefit this year.

Last year Timmins James Bay got $309-thousand dollars and created 130 jobs.

Money is spread right across the riding and includes groups such as St. John’s Ambulance, Seizure and Brain Injury Centre, Connaught Historical Society, Ininew Friendship Centre and the Englehart Family Health Team.

All those approved for the program have been contacted. Angus says if your group has not received hiring instructions; please contact his Timmins office at 268-6464.
