A staggering report from the Fraser Institute on elementary schools in the city.

The report released last Friday says only two schools rank above the provincial average when it comes to grades.

That would be Don Bosco (6.7) and Sacred Heart (7.0) that sit above 6.0.

However, when you compare the rest of the provinces schools, that may not even be good enough.  Sacred Heart ranks 846th among the 2,900 schools that were looked at.

Don Bosco sits 1,056th.

Looking at other Timmins and South Porcupine schools:

  • W. Earle Miller (5.3) sits 1,985th
  • Timmins Centennial (5.0) sits 2,155th
  • Bertha Shaw (4.9) is at 2,212nd
  • St. Joseph (4.8) ranks 2.252nd
  • Golden Avenue (4.4) registers in at 2,400th
  • St. Paul (3.5) comes in at 2,653rd
  • Pinecrest (2.7) ranks 2,767th
  • Lionel-Gauthier (1.4) is in at 2,851st
  • St. Gerard didn’t even register on the FI rating scale, sitting at 2,876th

The Institute says the rankings are based on “nine academic indicators from results of annual province-wide reading, writing and math tests.”
