The Timmins Police Service completed Motorized Snow Vehicle patrols this weekend on the trail systems found within city limits on Saturday of this past weekend.

Snowmobilers were checked to verify sobriety and to ensure that the operators were in full compliance with the relevant statutes that apply to Motorized Snow Vehicles.

As a result of these patrols, five operators were issued Provincial Offence Notices for Use MSV Trail System – No Permit contrary to section 2.1(1) of the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act.

A further charge of Operate MSV While Driver’s Licence Suspended contrary to section 17.1(11) of the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act was laid against Nicholas CLUSIEAU, 27 of Timmins. He is required to attend Provincial Court to answer to the charge laid against him.

An additional charge for Improper Muffler was laid against a 26 year old MSV operator who is alleged to have an altered muffler on the snowmobile he was operating.

Snowmobile enthusiasts are reminded to ensure a valid trail permit is clearly visible on the vehicle they are operating and to have all pertinent documentation at the ready for inspection when required to produce it for a police officer.

Other Timmins Police Service – Traffic Sections officers were engaged in RIDE spot checks at various locations throughout the city on Saturday (11 Feb) evening between the hours of 9:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m. of the following morning.

A total of 265 motorists were checked to verify sobriety and no formal police action was undertaken as a result of these roadside checks.
