Many changes are coming to a couple area schools.

The Northeast Catholic District School Board is providing an update to their ongoing transition at the soon to be opened Pope Francis Elementary School (soon to be formerly known as St. Paul School).

In a release, the NCDSB says they’ve encountered construction challenges in the last few days which are impacting their ability to have the school ready for September 2017.

The board is exploring options and will be sharing their plans at an information session on Wednesday, April 26 at 6:30pm at St. Paul School.

Those options include utilizing Sacred Heart School as Pope Francis temporarily for the 2017-18 school year, and having all students—from Kindergarten to Grade 4—from St. Paul and Sacred Heart under one roof.

“We know that this plan is significantly different than our original renovation schedule, but our first priority is student and staff safety,” the board stated, “The possibility of using Sacred Heart School as a temporary school site will provide us with the time and space required to complete the full school renovation and addition while ensuring safety and minimizing the impact of construction on student learning.”

The board adds they’ll be in regular contact with families as they continue through the process.

Meantime, they say everything is on schedule to consolidate O’Gorman Intermediate Catholic School with the inclusion of Grade 5 and 6 students.

“Transition activities are planned for our local students in grades 4, 5, and 6 from St. Paul School and Sacred Heart School to visit O’Gorman Intermediate Catholic School in the coming weeks,” they add, “More information is forthcoming about these activities. We are very excited to welcome new students to the O’Gorman Intermediate family in September 2017!”
