The province is making a big impact on colleges across Ontario.

In celebration of 50 years of Colleges Ontario, the government is kicking in a total of $48 million dollars in capital funding. Northern College is receiving $1,505,833 and College Boreal nabbing $1,549,435.

In a release, Northern says they’ll use the money to “provide new equipment, simulation and information technology, and enhanced learning infrastructure for students in the Paramedic, Paramedic Bridging, Police Foundations, and Pre-Service Firefighter Education and Training programs.”

The new equipment and learning resources will be housed in the Integrated Emergency Services Complex at the Timmins Campus.

Construction of the new state-of-the-art complex is scheduled to begin later this spring.

The money will also support high-demand programs by providing equipment and technology to modernize classrooms and labs in all four of Northern’s campuses.

In addition, Ontario is also providing $2 million to the Northern Colleges Collaboration to improve student access to education in the North. This project is an innovative partnership between northern Ontario’s six public colleges, Boréal, Cambrian, Canadore, Confederation, Northern and Sault.
