The biggest—and possibly most controversial—festival Timmins has ever seen is exactly a month away.

Stars and Thunder will start on June 24th, but Timmins city council is tying up some loose ends ahead of the festival.

For starters, the city is turning Brunette Road into a one-way street southbound for 12 days.  The change encompasses the stretch between Algonquin and Second Avenue.

(The closure goes from June 22nd at 8:00am until July 4th at 6:00pm)

Timmins Police Deputy Chief Des Walsh says there will be four officers stationed at key parts of the road directing traffic throughout the festival.  The road itself will be turned into three lanes of traffic, acknowledging there will be delays.

One of the lanes will be for through traffic, and another for drop offs at the festival.

The city has also signed an agreement for Tap It Draft Services to provide the alcohol for the festival.

And they are looking to get a by-law in place so they can work with Goldcorp to utilize the Hollinger Pit berm to launch fireworks.

One other tidbit, Councillor Rick Dubeau requested an update on revenues, which is usually provided in Mayor Steve Black’s monthly update.

Black obliged, noting they’re still around $1 million dollars short of breaking even right now.

We will hear more about that during the scheduled update, to be presented at the June 6th council meeting.
