Two major road construction projects are set to get underway after Timmins city council awarded contracts.

The next phase of the Connecting Link’s been approved to Miller Paving for just over $3.5-million dollars, which is around $250,000 less than the city’s initial estimate.

The road work will be for 1.2 kilometres, stretching from the western-most point of where 2016 construction ended to the bottom of Rea Hill.

The work is scheduled to begin in July, finishing up September 8th and paid for by a debenture taken out by the city.

Meantime, Pine Street South is set for an overhaul much earlier.

Work is set to begin Monday on a stretch of road from Sheridan’s Trailer Park south towards the entrance to the Deloro Landfill.

Council awarded that contract to Caron Equipment for just under $850,000. Much like the Connecting Link, this number came in around $250,000 under the city’s estimate.

The project is set to wrap up August 4th.
