Two defending champions moved into a tie for first place in their respective leagues this week.

MEN’S BASEBALL
The Timmins Whiskey Jacks are back in a familiar spot: first place.

They’ve matched the Servicemaster Orioles’ 6-2 record after the Jacks went on a run of three straight victories this week. That includes a 10-5 win over those Orioles Wednesday night.

The Whiskey Jacks also nabbed a 12-0 win in a five-inning affair over the Boston Pizza Pirates Monday night. And they finished the run Sunday with a 14-4 win over the Lessard-Stephens Red Sox in five innings.

The Moneta Pub and Grub Brewers hold a 7-3 record and are tied for first as well, though their win percentage is at .700, compared to the Jacks’ and Orioles’ .750%

The Brewers notched victories in the other two games in TMBL this week.

They blew by the Red Sox 20-8 in five innings Tuesday, and snuck by the Pirates 10-9 Thursday.

Action returns to the Theriault diamond Monday when the Brewers and Orioles go at it at 6:15pm.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
The Dunrite Rubber Wolfpack have moved into a three-way tie for tops in the Timmins Women’s Soccer League after a 5-1 victory over the Porcupine Kinsmen Sunday night.

This, after suffering a 2-0 loss to the Timmins Terminators last Wednesday.

Overall, the Terminators had a great week. They started with a 0-0 draw against the Restore Physiotherapy Pandas Monday and then nabbed a 2-0 win over Investors Group Tuesday.

That result put the Pandas into that three-way tie along with the Wolfpack and Rehab Plus.

Rehab Plus took a 2-0 loss to Investors Group Monday, but salvaged the 1-1 draw Thursday against Porcupine Kinsmen.

The other result saw the Kinsmen blank Tisdale Plumbing and Heating/Eclipse Financial (TPAH/EF) 1-0 Wednesday.

Two games hit the pitch Monday night in TWLS action.

The Wolfpack and Pandas begin at 6pm and the Terminators and TPAH/EF follow that up at 7:30pm. Both games go from Timmins High.

MEN’S SOCCER
Gunners FC continue to fall down the table, clinching last place in the seven-team Timmins Men’s Soccer League.

They started the week forefeiting a game to Blizzard Tuesday, and were trounced 12-4 Sunday night to the Rebels.

There were a few other games scheduled in the league this week, but results weren’t immediately available to the press.

TMLS play resumes Tuesday with Hearst and the Kapuskasing Longhorns lock up in Kap at 7:30pm, while TUFC looks to continue their undefeated season against Blizzard at 9:00pm at Timmins Regional Athletics and Soccer Complex.
