A total of 30 charges were handed to a couple of youth after what OPP are calling “violent crimes” in Kapuskasing.

OPP say a 17-year old from Smooth Rock Falls and a 15-year old from Kapuskasing were arrested late Friday night when police responded to a weapons call on Riverside Drive in Kapuskasing.

“Uniformed officers responding to the call located and arrested the male a short distance from the crime scene,” police stated in a release, “With the assistance of the OPP North East Region Criminal Investigation Unit, police determined that two youths had committed several violent crimes.”

The 17-year old Smooth Rock Falls boy faces the following 16 charges:

  • Robbery with Weapon
  • Robbery with Theft
  • Kidnapping – Confine
  • Three counts of Assault with a Weapon
  • Three counts of Utterings Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm
  • Break, Enter Dwelling House – Commit Indictable Offence
  • Mischief – Destroys or Damages Property
  • Five Counts of Fail to Comply with Sentence

The 15-year old boy from Kapuskasing, meantime, nabbed himself 14 charges:

  • Robbery with Weapon
  • Robbery with Theft
  • Kidnapping – Confine
  • Four counts of Assault with a Weapon
  • Three counts of Utterings Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm
  • Break, Enter Dwelling House – Commit Indictable Offence
  • Mischief – Destroys or Damages Property
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Fail to Comply with Sentence

Neither of them can be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, and will appear in a Cochrane courtroom Monday morning.
