A response by Goldcorp to recent vibration activity in Timmins.

Community Liason Coordinator Andrea McCormack says in response to community feedback regarding vibrations felt Friday, July 21 at around 10:10am, Goldcorp-Porcupine Gold Mines is reminding the public that they only blast at times approved by the city and relevant oversight bodies.

The vibration was felt at a time when Goldcorp would not have been blasting.

Their blasting times at the Hollinger Open Pit are as follows:

  • 11:30am to 12 noon (year round)
  • 3:30pm to 4:00pm (March-October)

Goldcorp adds a warning alarm is sounded before any scheduled blast and continue to operate “well within approved parameters.”

If you feel a vibration outside the times listed, Goldcorp says it’s not because of any blasting at the open pit.

They add if there’s a significant blast that causes a vibration outside of allowable limits, they will inform the public.
