On December 22, 2017 at approximately 4:15 a.m., police received a report of a single vehicle collision in the area of Lonergan Blvd. and Denise St. Upon attending the scene and speaking to the driver of the vehicle, police noted signs of impairment. Following investigation, Nathan HOKSBERGEN, 34, of Timmins faces charges of:

  • Driving while ability impaired
  • Driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in 100 ml of blood
  • Driving while under suspension

Hoksbergen was released on a Promise to Appear with a future court date of January 2, 2018.

This marks the third driver charged with impaired driving since the Festive RIDE season began. While discouraging, recent RIDE programs conducted by the Timmins Police Service demonstrate that many drivers are still choosing to make the right decision and drive sober.

During a RIDE program conducted on December 15, approximately 375 vehicles were checked. One roadside breath test was administered and two Provincial Offence Notices were issued, however no impaired driving charges were laid. Similarly, a RIDE program conducted on December 21 saw approximately 420 vehicles checked, with four roadside breath tests administered, one Provincial Offence Notice issued, and no impaired driving charges laid.

The Timmins Police Service encourages residents to continue to make the safe, smart decision not to drive after drinking. Impaired driving can, and will, have devastating consequences including criminal charges, monetary losses, possible collisions, injuries and worse. The public is urged to call 9-1-1 for any suspected impaired driver.
