January is Crime Stoppers Month, and the local program is celebrating a successful 2017.

Just over 300 tips were collected in the Cochrane district, leading to over 100 charges being laid.

“These tips were forwarded to various enforcement agencies throughout North-Eastern Ontario to assist in ongoing investigations,” says Coordinator Marc Depatie.

With those charges, over $30-thousand dollars in stolen goods were recovered and over $50-thousand dollars in illegal drugs were taken off the streets.

The program also celebrated a successful “24 Days of Christmas” fundraiser, which saw hundreds of dollars in prizing given away.

Depatie says all the money raised stays local.

“All funds raised locally are dispersed responsibly to persons who provide anonymous information that leads to arrests or charges,” he says, “In short, when you support Crime Stoppers, you are making an investment towards a safer community.”
