ENACTUS Northern College and Head Start in Business are giving away $3000 to help post-secondary students and socially inclined individuals start a social enterprise.

Students and community members are encouraged to register for the two-day Social Thinktank workshop at Northern College on March 27th and 28th.

The pitch competition will give students firsthand experience with developing and proposing a business model. Jonathan Lavergne, ENACTUS Northern College Student Body President, said “We’re excited to give students practical entrepreneurship experience with the assistance of mentors in business and community development.”

The partnership is also recruiting members from the business community and social service sector to provide mentorship and expertise at the event. “This is a great opportunity for businesses to work with social agencies,” said Cindy Reasbeck, Northern Ontario Program Manager at Head Start in Business, “and to develop business models that help solve or alleviate social issues,” she said.

Along with the prize money, the winning team will receive in-kind services to help start their business, including accounting, legal and marketing services.

Participants can register at socialthinktank.eventbrite.com
