**DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD ONTARIO NORTH EAST MEDIA RELEASE**

Terry Fox often said that it was the youth who would carry forth his efforts and work towards a world without cancer. In 2017, over 4,200 Ontario schools united and raised over $6.9 million dollars for cancer research.

District School Board Ontario North East is extremely proud of its association with the Terry Fox Foundation. For the past 28 years, our schools have been sharing Terry’s example of courage, strength and hope by holding annual Terry Fox Runs. To date, our fundraising efforts have yielded $395,307.23.

“We are so proud that our students and staff, after almost 30 years, have been able to raise almost $400,000,” said Director of Education, Lesleigh Dye. “They’ve been able to do this through incredible community support for such a valuable cause.”

Roland Michener Secondary School in South Porcupine has participated in all 28 school runs, making it the number one fundraiser of all DSB ONE schools at $45,201.70.

“It’s absolutely amazing and worth celebrating,” added Board Chair, Bob Brush. “We thank our staff and hail the students of all of our schools who see the purpose in the Terry Fox Foundation, and support it wholeheartedly. Our fundraising efforts will only continue to grow.”
