The Canadian Summer Jobs program is continuing to provide record funding for the Timmins-James Bay region. The program provides wage subsidies to employers to create employment for secondary and post-secondary students.

Timmins James Bay MP Charlie Angus says 208 students will be working in the region this summer thanks to over $624,000 in funding.

The work students will be doing not only helps the community, but it gives the students experience in a variety of areas. “We’re getting students hired in doing out-reach, working on educational projects, working with children, in tourism, and in cultural activities,” he says. “It’s a really good representation of the kind of experience that can be had working in the Timmins James-Bay Region.”

Angus adds that even with the record funding, many groups weren’t able to get approved again this year.

“We always take note of those who don’t get students to try and make sure the dollars are continued to be spread evenly and fairly in the future,” Angus said. “Even with this amount, unfortunately some groups will not get funding.”

The money is spread right across the riding including Matheon, Moosonee, Larder Lake, Timmins, Engleheart and many other locations.
