**OPP NEWS RELEASE**


On May 4, 2018, at approximately 7:47 p.m., members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 11, between Marten River and Temagami, Ontario. OPP stopped the commercial motor vehicle on Highway 11, in Temagami, Ontario.

The 53-year-old male driver, Gurinder CHAWLA of Surrey, British Columbia, was arrested and charged for:

  •  Drive while ability impaired, contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (C.C.), and

 

  • Drive with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the C.C.,

 

The vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded for seven days. The accused was released by way of Promise to Appear (PTA). He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on May 29, 2018, in Haileybury, Ontario.
