**TIMMINS FIRE DEPARTMENT NEWS RELEASE**


Crew responded Wednesday morning, May 9, 2018, to a structure fire at 148 Sixth Ave. The initial call was received at 8:42am as a possible structure fire and confirmed as a working fire upon arrival.

The home endured substantial damage caused by smoke, fire and water. Crews were able to contain the fire and avoid any major damage to the neighbouring homes. The home has not been confirmed at this time if it is a complete loss. There were no injuries or fatalities sustained to residents or firefighters during the blaze.

Traffic was disrupted in the areas of Sixth Ave and Balsam St N for a short period of time. Timmins Fire Department responded to the scene with four pumper/tanker trucks, two aerials and several rescue and emergency vehicles. Resources with a combination of 30 firefighters from Timmins, Mountjoy, Schumacher, and South Porcupine Stations, were on scene to battle the blaze. The cause of the fire is suspected to originate from an electrical source but is still under investigation.

The Timmins Fire Department is a composite Fire Department that operates 7 Fire Stations; 5 Volunteer Stations, 1 Composite Station and 1 Airport Station. The Fire Department is equipped with a total of 21 pieces of apparatus, 140 Volunteers Firefighters and 34 Career Firefighters.
