**TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE NEWS RELEASE**

The Timmins Police Service – Traffic Section is in the midst of completing an investigation into a cyclist related collision which occurred at the intersection of Theriault Blvd and Algonquin Blvd over the lunch hour.

A 66 year old male cyclist collided with a vehicle stopped while facing a red light at the intersection.

The cyclist was brought to Timmins and District Hospital for treatment for head injuries which have been determined to be superficial in nature.

Witnesses are being sought and asked to call the Timmins Police Service – Traffic Section at 705-264-1201.

This incident brings into sharp focus the need for cyclists to be aware of the importance of wearing a properly fitted helmet and to be particularly alert while approaching and entering intersections.

The Timmins Police Service view collisions of this nature to be preventable incidents where the severity of injury can also be significantly reduced with the adherence to wearing a properly fitted bicycle helmet.
