Northern College is pleased to announce that it has recently completed recruitment of two new administrators to fill vacant roles on its senior management team.

“The two vacancies were created earlier this year when Mike Baker, Vice-President Finance, Administration and Indigenous Services resigned to assume the role of CEO at Temiskaming District Hospital; and when Lynn Berthiaume, Executive Director of Student Services, Institutional Research and Registrar announced her planned retirement at the end of June,” said college President and CEO, Dr. Fred Gibbons.

Laurel Campbell has been hired as Vice President, Finance and Administration, effective August 1st. Ms. Campbell has an impressive career that spans the private and broader public and college sectors. Currently, Campbell is Chief Financial Officer, Nisga’a Pacific Ventures LP, New Aiyansh, British Columbia. Previously, she held positions of Vice President, Corporate Services at Northwest Community College, Terrace, British Columbia; and Chief Financial Officer at Olds College, Olds, Alberta.

“Her skill sets and knowledge of post-secondary education align very well with the needs of the Finance and Administration area and its various departments. I know she will provide capable, effective

leadership not only to the finance and administration team, but at the senior management table as well. Laurel is originally from Mattawa, Ontario, so coming to Northern College really is very much like coming home,” said Gibbons.

Campbell is a registered CPA Canada/CGA Canada/CGA Ontario whose educational background includes an MBA from Laurentian University. Campbell will report directly to Northern College President, Dr. Fred Gibbons.

“I am also pleased to announce the hiring of Cam McEachern as Executive Director of Student Services, Institutional Research and Registrar,” said Gibbons.

McEachern joins the senior management team at Northern College with experience in higher education serving in management and faculty roles at both college and university institutions in Canada and the United States. He holds a M.A. degree from McGill University, Quebec and B.A. degree from Queen’s University, Ontario. Most recently employed by St. Lawrence College in Kingston, Ontario, and previously with Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science & Technology, Saskatoon, McEachern prides himself as a learner-centered organizational change agent implementing new initiatives that achieve superior post-secondary access and success with expertise in online and hybrid programming, quality assurance, applied research and strategic planning.

As Executive Director of Student Services, Institutional Research and Registrar, reporting directly to the Vice-President Academic and Student Success, Dr. Audrey Penner, he will have college-wide responsibilities providing strategic vision, leadership, direction, and management to a very diverse service area of the college. 

Northern College’s senior management team is comprised of Dr. Fred Gibbons, President and CEO; Dr. Audrey Penner, Vice-President Academic and Student Success; Laurel Campbell, Vice President, Finance and Administration; Cam McEachern, Executive Director of Student Services, Institutional Research and Registrar; Christine Heavens, Executive Director, Community, Business Development and Employment Services; and Pierrette Fortier, Executive Assistant to the President and Board of Governors.
