Council is shooting down a 5-dollar tipping fee at the Deloro landfill.

Director of Public Works, Luc Duval says by starting a 5-dollar tipping fee June 1st, the city could make $75,000 this year and $150,000 next year.  Councillors Doody, Grezla, Rinaldo, and Mayor Steve Black voted in favour of keeping the tipping fee in the budget.

Duval says many other municipalities in the north and Ontario smaller than Timmins have tipping fees.

“We have to look at our community, we have to make rates based on what we own and based on what we do.”

The motion has been brought forward on more than one occasion, the last being on Feb 18th when Duval thought the majority council was in favour of the tipping fee.  Although the vote also included a tipping fee be imposed at the Tisdale transfer site.

Instead council voted to lower the tipping fee weight from 125kg to 100kg and the Deloro Landfill will be closed Sundays between November and April.
