Chamber logoThe Timmins Chamber is showing it’s appreciation for the latest minimum wage increase.

Manager of Policy, Research and Communications Nick Stewart says they, along with the Ontario Chamber of Commerce pushed for minimum wage to be tied with the Consumer Price Index.

The bill was passed into law last fall, and this is the first increase.

Stewart says they appreciate that the increase is a “measured approach.”

However, he adds any additional cost to doing business is always a concern to the Chamber, especially in Ontario, “where businesses already face a number of additional costs in the form of high energy prices.”

“There’s (also) the looming provincial pension plan that’s still on the horizon, so a lot of these uncertainty’s are definitely an issue and certainly a concern to business.”

Ontario’s minimum wage will go to $11.25 an hour on October 1st.
