angusExpect an “election budget” on Tuesday, according to Timmins-James Bay MP Charlie Angus (NDP).

“This is a government that couldn’t get their budget together for two months,” he said, “This budget is late, they couldn’t add up the numbers, they want an election budget, they’re going to make all kinds of crazy promises.”

“Meanwhile, we’re dealing with stagnant economic growth.  We’re dealing with more precarious work that this government is going to be using this as a huge, unprecedented advertising commercial propaganda to promote this budget because they need this to detract attention from the scandals and the stagnant economy.”

The Conservative government is expected to court the support of older Canadians, and balance the books.

In addition, the Tory’s say any Minister that doesn’t balance their books will face a fine.

Angus says that announcement is nothing more than a “publicity stunt.”

“These guys ran seven years of record deficits.  They just sold off all their shares in GM at a loss to try and get money to balance the books,” he added.

“We need long-term economic planning.  We don’t need these kind of ridiculous stunts.  This is a government that hasn’t managed the books well.  The fact that they’re selling everything but the kitchen sink to get to a balanced budget now doesn’t really bode well for economic planning in the future.

Angus says investing in infrastructure would be a wise move, especially with low interest rates.

We will have to wait and see late Tuesday afternoon for what Federal Finance Minister Joe Oliver has in store.
