The Timmins Police Services Board is moving a couple cameras to the intersections of Mountjoy and Theriault along the Connecting Link route.

Chief John Gauthier says the cameras help them solve crimes such as stolen goods, collisions and efforts to help locate missing people.

He says the cameras don’t zoom, and are fixed on a wide angle and assures the public the cameras are not meant to spy on people.

This will not cost the city anything in new equipment, as both cameras are being used at the moment at the Sportsplex and the corner of Cedar and Algonquin near city hall.

That particular intersection has a second camera, the webcam operated at city hall.

Gauthier says this is just more of a housekeeping item, to make sure they maximize all their equipment in an effective manner.
