angusTimmins-James Bay MP Charlie Angus is congratulating O’Gorman High School on their recent win at the Sears Drama Festival. The school was the winner of Excellence of Production and Outstanding Achievement Award for Acting for the Ensemble Cast.

Angus says this is quite an honour for the school. “The Sears Drama Festival has been going for 70 years and is highly regarded within the arts community.”

The play “It’s About Time” has had a terrific year. They also won Outstanding Production and Award of Excellence for Maddie Cox, Cedar Iahtail, Aaron Kingsbury and Rowan Cuthbert at the Temiskaming District Festival. Along with Outstanding production and Award of Excellence for Set Construction and Design at the Northern Regional Festival.

Angus, a 2-time Juno Award nominee, says promoting arts and culture is very close to his heart. “O’Gorman teacher Maureen Haas wrote this wonderful play. She has been teaching at the school for 10 years and certainly her hard work and dedication is appreciated by everyone she comes into contact with.”

Angus stresses the importance of the arts in school. “Theatre, music and visual arts gives young people an opportunity to express themselves and escape the pressures and challenges of everyday life “

Knights in Lights is performing “It’s About Time” May 24th and May 25th in the Sylvia Gravel Theatre at the high school. It will be the final performances.
