AngusCharlie_NDPTimmins is gaining more jobs as the city continues to grow as a regional centre for federal government.

The city’s two Service Canada offices have become major processing centres for pension claims, disability issues and income support programs.

Timmins-James Bay MP Charlie Angus toured the offices and was admittedly impressed.

“People think of Timmins as a blue-collar economy but the large pool of educated, bilingual workers has made our community a very competitive hub for the stable and long term jobs in the federal civil service,” he said.

Angus recalled days when Timmins had to outsource civil service jobs from the region. Now, with professionalism and dedication, the region is drawing work.

“The civil service workers in Timmins are a credit to our region and to Canadian,” he said.” They help to offset the ups and downs of a boom-bust economy. As well, these workers do great things for people who need answers about their pensions. Good work team.”

There are over 200 people employed by Service Canada.
