City Chief Administrative Officer Joe Torlone is retiring.

Joe has led the Corporation of the City of Timmins for the past 14 years as CAO, but has also served this municipality in various capacities for over 37 years.

“In his position as CAO, Joe has proven to be a great leader and ambassador for the City of Timmins, and has been a diligent promoter of our city,” said Mayor Steve Black in an announcement to staff. “Because of his hard work and dedication to this municipality, Joe has built a strong reputation and is well-respected by his municipal peers across Ontario, and by his colleagues at all levels of government.

His professionalism, foresight, integrity and dedication to making the City of Timmins the best that it could be has been second-to-none, and has been felt throughout Ontario.”

Joe will continue to lead the team until January 27, 2017, allowing staff, Mayor and Council to seek a qualified replacement for the role. The hiring process for this distinguished position will take an estimated four months. A preliminary hiring committee, comprised of the Mayor and four councilors, has already been established to short-list possible candidates. Successful candidates will then proceed to the interview process with Mayor and Council.

The Director of Human Resources, Rock Foy, will provide assistance to Council on administrative aspects throughout the hiring process.

Joe will certainly be missed at City Hall by his many colleagues and friends – for his dedication and commitment to our city, and the important role he’s played in making Timmins a great place to live, work and play. We wish for Joe great health and happiness throughout this next chapter in his life, and well-earned relaxation in his retirement.
