Do you know a champion of human rights?  What about a dedicated local volunteer?  Nominate them for the Human Rights Wall of Fame.

The Multicultural Centre kicked off this year’s nomination process by unveiling the wall on display at the Timmins Public Library.

Tom Baby, Local Immigration Partnership Coordinator for the Multicultural Centre, says the walls been on display for a little while but it’s the first time they’ve publicly acknowledged it.

Nominations are now open, with this year’s inductees to be honoured at the 3rd Annual Evening of Applause later this year.

You can nominate someone for the Wall on the Multicultural Centre’s website.

Nominations are due at the beginning of March, with a committee to choose finalists soon after.  The inductees will get notified in mid-March.

As for who to nominate? Baby says the field is open.

“We’re just looking for leaders in the community who are dealing with promoting human rights or fighting against discrimination of any sort,” he added, “Whether that’s racism or disability or any kind of discrimination really.”
