A 29-year old man from British Columbia is facing several charges—including attempted murder—after an incident at a hotel in Kirkland Lake early Saturday morning.

Kirkland Lake OPP say they responded to a call to the hotel on Government Road East around 1:15am due to a physical altercation.

A 39-year old man suffered serious injuries and was transported to hospital.

Byron Cheesequay of Qualichum Beach, BC faces four charges in all, including “Attempt to Commit Murder, Forcible Confinement, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Fail to Comply with Probation Order.”

Cheesequay was brought into police custody, pending a bail hearing at an unspecified date.

Numerous OPP officers assisted in the investigation, from Kirkland Lake, South Porcupine, Kapuskasing and Almaguin Highlands.

Also involved were Forensic Identification Services (FIS) from North Bay and South Porcupine, the North East Region (NER) Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the OPP Canine Unit from Kirkland Lake.

The investigation is continuing, and OPP is asking for the public’s assistance.
