The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind everyone to be wary of potential fraud.

Fraudsters are claiming to be with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and are threatening criminal investigation or possible arrest for unpaid taxes if the outstanding monies are not paid via wire transfer.

When the CRA contacts you they will never:

  1. Ask for personal information by email or text message.
  2. Request payment by prepaid credit card or wire transfer.
  3. Share your tax information with another person or organization unless you agree that it can be shared.
  4. Leave personal information on an answering machine.
  5. Threaten arrest or to send police.

To report a fraud you may contact the Canadian Anti-fraud call centre at 1-888-495-8501 or online at www.antifraudcentre.ca.
