**TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE NEWS RELEASE**


While completing general patrol of the downtown core during the late evening hours of Monday June 25th, a Timmins Police Service officer recognized a local woman as being the subject of an arrest warrant.

The Timmins Police officer confronted the woman and confirmed that an arrest warrant was in fact on file with the Timmins Police Service.

While completing the arrest, a male party is alleged to have physically interfered with the officer by means of an assault, which allowed for the woman to flee the area.

The male party was arrested by the Timmins Police officer for Obstruct Peace Officer and taken into custody.

The woman was located by the Timmins Police Service a short while later and taken into custody as well.

As a result, Gilbert LIZOTTE, 46, of Timmins has been arrested and charged with:
– Obstruct a Peace Officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused has been held in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated to take place this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins.

Additionally, Crystal POONAE, 30, of Timmins has been arrested and charged with:
– Theft under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Escape Lawful Custody contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

In this instance as well, the accused has been held in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated to take place this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins.
