**TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE NEWS RELEASE**

The Timmins Police Service arrested a local woman for failing to attend court in keeping with a Promise to Appear.
The incident stems from an arrest made on June 11th where the woman was arrested in regards to a separate matter and then released with a court date of July 10th.

The woman is alleged to have failed to attend court yesterday as required by law.

She was arrested by the Timmins Police Service late yesterday afternoon.

Shayna FARIES- DIAMOND, 27, of Timmins remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing this morning on a charge of Fail to Appear contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The Timmins Police Service take this opportunity to remind all persons released from custody that the obligation to attend court in answer to all criminal matters is a legal imperative.

Failing to attend court, in the absence of extreme circumstances, will almost surely result in additional criminal charges.

Timmins Police Corporate Communications Coordinator adds “There is an element of responsibility attached to being released prior to trial. The expectation that an accused person will attend court and continue to attend court until the matter is dealt with according to law is a reasonable one. The penalties for such criminal offences include heavy fines and, where warranted, incarceration.”
