10 years seems like  a short period of time now days but, when you can go 10 years with safe production with 25% of the employees you started with you can say it has been a good 10 years and a decade  worth celebrating.

That’s exactly what the people at DeBeers will be doing on Wednesday August 15th.

Tom Ormsby Head of External and Cooperate Affairs says this celebration is for DeBeers wanting to thank and acknowledge all of their employees and partners that have been with them throughout this decade.

DeBeers has received many awards in the last decade but the ones that truly meant a lot according to Tom were the  “3 safety awards,” 2 of the 3 were National Safety Awards for Safest Mine in Canada.

They also received three consecutive regional awards (John T. Ryan award). Ormsby later added that all of these awards were “the best success we had as a team”  because they had brought in a lot of people from all over the province and even from all over the country.

It was considered a huge win because everyone played a big part in winning the awards.

That’s not all in terms of success.

They are also on pace to potentially set a record for best production. They have done everything right in the last 10 years and still continue to do so.

Ormsby states that, like promised “30% of the mine will be reclaimed and will be in the condition we said it would be when the mine closes.”

in closing statements of the interview he stated with a passion that these last 10 successful years are “a true testament to the culture that was created”  and was clearly happy that they were able to leave their mark under the grounds of Northern Ontario.
