Every day this week we are featuring platform highlights from the Ward Councillor candidates in the upcoming election. Our stations have reached out to each Councillor candidate to outline their platform for listeners. This is Ward 5 Councillor candidate Andrew Marks’ submitted platform.

I want to begin by thanking the residents of Ward 5 for electing me 4 years ago to represent you.  Born, raised, educated and employed in Timmins, it is an honour to serve you.

Experience matters!   Experience means knowledge; it means understanding how City Hall works; it means demonstrating the willingness to serve; it means having a working knowledge of important City issues.   I have the experience, the leadership skills and the knowledge of how City Hall works and how to best represent you.

But elections are not about the past, they are about the future and having a vision. Our City requires strong leadership skills and dedicated people with a vision to make Timmins, our home, a better place for ALL to live.

The vision for the City of Timmins that I, and I hope you share, of is one based on Economic Diversification, with a variety of jobs to sustain current residents, retain youth and attract newcomers.  Diversification is essential for a robust local economy, providing the platform for entrepreneurship and the foundation for businesses, large and small.  This will broaden the tax base, stimulate residential construction, grow school enrollment and increase our City’s assets.

My vision includes a City with a quality of life that is second to none.  A place where people choose to live; where PRIDE in our City, is in: modern arenas and sporting & recreational facilities; great trail systems; cultural and educational assets such as the museum and Library;

I am not alone in this vision.  You need to play a greater role in creating a transparent and in-depth, detailed city budgeting process.   I can be the voice and your representative, but we our vision needs action – that includes more community and public involvement starting this December… actually, starting with this election.

I hope my vision resonates with you and that you will support me on October 22nd to be your voice on City Council.

Biography:

It has been my honour to serve the residents of Ward 5 this past four years.   Thank you!  There is still work to be done to make the City of Timmins a better place to live, to work and to enjoy a quality of life that is second to none.   I have lived in Timmins all my life and the opportunity to represent the residents of Ward 5 around the council table is something that I do not take lightly.  This huge responsibility requires someone with experience, dedication and a vast community knowledge to ensure we continue to grow our great city!

I am a proud life-long resident of Timmins, currently working for the Northeastern Catholic District School Board as their Community Relations Officer.  I am serving my 4th term as a City Councillor, representing Ward 5 in the City of Timmins.

As a councillor, I am currently sitting as a member of the Timmins Museum Board of Directors, the Downtown Timmins BIA Board of Directors, the Cochrane District Social Services Administration Board of Directors, the Porcupine Health Unit Board of Directors, the Ontario Business Improvement Area Association Board of Directors, the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority Board of Directors, the Timmins Senior (Age-Friendly) Municipal Advisory Committee, and the Violence Against Women Municipal Advisory Committee.

My vision for Timmins is a safe, inclusive, prosperous and proud community.   By working together, we can achieve this.   When re-elected on October 22nd I will continue to work for you.
