The Porcupine Ski Runners Cross Country Ski Club and the City of Timmins welcomes the 2019 Canadian Masters Cross Country Ski Championships,  February 8 to 10th.

It is the first time that it has been hosted in Timmins and Goldcorp Inc., (Porcupine Gold Mines) is serving as the event title sponsor.

Mike Kornell, Chief of Competition states that “the Club’s experienced volunteers have hosted several Ontario high school and other provincial xc ski championships in recent years, on its top notch groomed trails and modern chalet. We will provide a great visiting skier experience”.

It is expected that about 100 xc ski racers from across Canada will participate, in the skate and classic technique  races (10km. & 20km distances). Some of the racers will go on to Norway for the World Masters Cross Country Ski Championships in March 2019.

Masters skiers (both men & women) range from 30 to 80+ in age. There is also a ‘participant’ skier category for ages 20 to 29.

“We are honoured to be the host city for such a prestigious competition. Timmins  is a winter wonderland with a predictable, cold and long winter. We have on our doorstep a world class  cross country ski facility and a network of impeccably groomed trails that are second to none. Our easy access from major markets and the legendary northern hospitality that we are renown for, are two other assets that matter greatly when bidding on these types of events. We applaud the work of the organizing committee, and that of the volunteers at Porcupine Ski Runners. They are the unsung heroes that will help shine a light on the City”  added Guy Lamarche, Manager Tourism & Events City of Timmins.
