**TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE NEWS RELEASE**


As part of its commitment to partnership with the community, the Timmins Police Service announces an exciting opportunity for dedicated, community-minded volunteers to become Auxiliary Police Officers.

This is a VOLUNTEER position within the Timmins Police Service organization. The duties of Auxiliary Officers may include assisting roles, under the supervision of regular Timmins Police Service Sworn Officers, in:

–Crowd management at parades and special events
–Searches for missing persons and large scale searches for evidence;
–Support during major emergencies or disasters;
–R.I.D.E. and special traffic enforcement programs;
–Canvassing neighbourhoods (to a limited extent) to assist with investigations;
–Conducting telephone surveys in relation to issues of interest to the police service and the community;
–Distribution of promotional and public education material; and
–Other functions as authorized by the Chief of Police.

Auxiliary Officers are often called upon to provide service in very difficult situations and inclement weather conditions.

Auxiliary Officers will be expected to maintain the high standards of the Timmins Police Service.

Applicants must:

–Be 18 years of age
–Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada
–Be of good moral character and habits, with no criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted
–Possess an Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma (or equivalent)
–Possess a valid Ontario Drivers License
–Preferably hold current certification in First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
–Meet minimum vision requirements
–Be physically and medically fit

The selection process, which will reflect the principles of equal opportunity, will require applicants to undergo an interview process, background check, and a psychological evaluation.
Successful applicants will be expected to volunteer to undergo an initial training period of 40 hours. Thereafter, Auxiliary Officers will be required to volunteer at least 144 hours of duty per year.
