**TIMMINS AND DISTRICT MULTICULTURAL CENTRE NEWS RELEASE**

After inducting Anne Vincent and the late Richard Bouvier in 2018, nominations are once again open for the City of Timmins Human Rights Wall of Fame. Selected individuals will be inducted to the Wall of Fame at the 5th annual Evening of Applause on March 25 in the TH&VS auditorium.

This event is in conjunction with the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (IDERD), observed annually on 21 March. On that day in 1960, South African police opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration against the apartheid “pass laws.” Proclaiming the Day in 1966, the General Assembly of the United Nations called on the international community to redouble its efforts to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination.

Where do you fit in? The Timmins, Together Selection Committee (formerly known as the IDERD Committee) is seeking nominations for people who have shown leadership in human rights, humanitarianism or anti-discrimination, inclusivity and welcoming activities locally, regionally, nationally or internationally. Inductees are honoured along with Student Who Make a Difference award winners at the Evening of Applause. Photos of inducted members of the City of Timmins Human Rights Wall of Fame will be displayed near the main entrance to the Timmins Public Library/ CHMA Building, which has been generously sponsored by the City of Timmins.

The Evening of Applause and Human Rights Hall of Fame initiatives are a way to recognize and celebrate the efforts of those within the City of Timmins who are actively contributing to the creation of an inclusive and welcoming community. The initiatives are organized by all four district school boards including CSCDGR, CSPNE, DSBONE NCDSB, as well as Northern College, Collège Boréal, Algoma University, Université de Hearst, the Cochrane District Social Planning Council and are spearheaded by the Timmins Local Immigration Partnership.
