**JAMES BAY OPP NEWS RELEASE**


On March 18, 2019, at approximately 8:00 p.m., members of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), observed an intoxicated female arguing with a server at a local restaurant in the Town of Smooth Rock Falls, Ontario.

 

The female was instructed to leave the establishment and eventually complied.

 

The female was then observed entering her motor vehicle and as police were attempting to intervene, she drove away at a high rate of speed.

 

Police stopped the driver a short distance away.

 

Joanne DESJARDINS, 50-years-old, of Smooth Rock Falls, Ontario, has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC) and Operation While Impaired – Alcohol Concentration (80 plus) contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) CC.

 

She is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane, Ontario, on May 16, 2019, to answer to the charges.

 

The driver was served with a 90 day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and the motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.

 

Police are asking the public to call the authorities if they see someone getting behind the wheel after having consumed intoxicating substances.
