Timmins Transit is now offering new innovative technology that makes wheel chair accessibility easier. Timmins Transit has 19 buses that completes their fleet, but not all of them can do what this new bus can do.

“This system allows the independence of the person to come on board, pull into the spot, push the button, the system is fully automatic, and it takes less than 25 seconds to work. The way it works is, there’s an arm that comes down and pushes up against both sides of the chair. Think of a sandwich… It’s just sandwiched in there, it can’t go anywhere.'”   -Jamie Millions Transit Operations Supervisor

This new technology is the first of its kind in Timmins, but it is also the first of its kind in all of Ontario. The plan is to eventually have every bus in the city with one of these installed, but that could take a while, since a bus like this one can cost up to $700,000! Buses normally have the life expectancy of 15-20 years. Having that said, every time a bus decides it can no longer do its job, it will be replaced by a new bus featuring this technology that was created by a company named “Quantum”

The City Of Timmins encourages those using public transit to download the Timmins Transit App, Which allows riders to track bus locations in real time. The App will also indicate whether or not the bus is equipped with the new system.
