November is the 11th month of the year on the calendar. Some see it as the month before Christmas, and others may see it as just another month, but there’s more to it.

November is the month where men from all over the world give up shaving for the entire month to raise awareness for prostate cancer and men’s mental health. The Movember Foundation, started all of that.

“The Movember Foundation is a global health charity dedicated to changing the face of men’s health, and we do that by activating and streaming the three area’s of focus which is, prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health/suicide prevention.” -Sam Wilson Movember Foundation

Since 2003, the Movember Foundation has been able to come up with multiple ways for everyone to get involved,  raise awareness, and to let men know that it’s okay to talk about their problems.

“Growing a mustache and raising funds is great, but for those who can’t grow a mustache, or don’t want to grow a mustache, they can do what we call the “Move Challenge”; During the month of Movember you can either run or walk 60km, and the 60km really represents the one man we lose every 60 seconds to suicide globally. The other way you can get involved is by hosting. We call it the “Host a Moment”; That’s basically hosting any kind of event that is raising funds for Movember.” -Said Wilson

Wilson went on to add that, since 2007 there has been a consistent increase with people signing up to raise awareness, and that this year, they are already over 56,000 registrations!

Movember is a growing movement, and November is not just another month on the calendar where men get to let their mustache grow. Movember is a movement that is used to shed the light on men that are suffering in silence, whether it’s suffering with prostate cancer, testicular cancer, or depression. Time to help put an end to the silence…
