**PORCUPINE HEALTH UNIT NEWS RELEASE**

DAILY COVID-19 UPDATE FOR TUESDAY, MAY 12, 2020

The Porcupine Health Unit (PHU) is reporting the current number of confirmed positive cases is now 65, 11 of which remain active. As of yesterday, over 3,695 COVID-19 tests have been completed in our region. For more information, phu.fyi/coronavirus.

As of last Friday, more tests are being completed in the PHU area compared to the rate for the province of Ontario. Of these tests, 2.5% of them were positive for COVID-19. For specifics, refer to this week’s epidemiology update on our website: https://phu.fyi/covid-report.

As part of the public health response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the amount of testing being conducted continues to increase. The more testing and contact tracing that occurs, the more effectively we can work together to stop this virus. All members of the community with symptoms, even if they are mild or resemble the common cold, are encouraged to call their health care provider or the health unit for a referral to an Assessment Centre. Like Ontario, the number of new cases within the health unit area is on a downward trend and to keep it this way, we need to continue to work together to reduce the spread of COVID-19! As more businesses open under provincial guidance, stay home as much as possible, limit trips to stores, send only one member per family to run errands when possible, wash hands frequently and maintain a physical distance of 2 metres when in stores. If you are not well, stay home.

Our COVID-19 Information line is open today from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Call the toll-free number, 1-800-461-1818, or the PHU office in your community. See phu.fyi/offices for local contact numbers.

Stay well. Stay home. Stay positive!
