**TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE NEWS RELEASE**


The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with a number of Criminal Code offences stemming from an assaultive altercation that occurred during the early morning hours of Saturday, June 27th in Schumacher.

The Timmins Police Service responded to a complaint regarding a disturbance at an apartment building on Father Les Costello Drive in Schumacher.

A male party was approached by the responding Timmins Police officer and fled on foot when asked to remain at the scene.

The man was located after a brief foot pursuit and proceeded to commit an assault against the Timmins Police officer.
During the assault, a knife was presented by the male subject.

The male party was eventually arrested by the Timmins Police officer without further incident.
Based on the outcome of the investigation, Justin BERTRAND, 30, of Timmins, has been charged with:
– Assault Peace Officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Resist Peace Officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Carry a Concealed Weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
